Tiny Dancer

Drama, drama and first sentences

My little sleep fighting diva has been creating some serious drama in our house for the past few days.

Our girl has always fought off sleep as if it were her mortal enemy. Some months of her short life have been worse than others. Thankfully, most recently, she had been doing much better and pretty consistently sleeping through the night and going down for naps with minimal drama.

However, since our two trips away, which involved some time sleeping in our bed with us, she is back to her old dramatic ways. Alain and I are enduring hours of pre-bed issues and then getting a max of 3-4 hours of sleep in the night.

We are racking our brains to determine what is really going on, and wondering if it really is as simple as the fact that she no longer wants her crib because she wants to become a permanent fixture in our bed and just happens to have a will of steel which can outlast both her Dad and I combined.

Out of all this drama, has come her first official sentence. Just now as I was putting her down for her nap, I thought she was saying "No bye Daddy", to which I would reply "Daddy's at work, we'll see him later."

After multiple tearful repetitions of this, I realized she was actually saying "No bed Essie" (as in I, Essie, don't want to go into my bed) over and over. Once I repeated that back to her, she nodded. Oh, I get it. Sorry girlie. I did manage to get her into her bed where she is still rolling around and complaining.

Cute first sentence. Sad that we can't get her to love her bed and embrace sleep.. that would be a dream come true for this tired momma.
